First test against Necrons

Well played 2 games against Alex's Necrons first game went well with him failing to steal the initiative and me getting some lucky night fight rolls turn 1. Then Paladins wrecked most if his army although took alot of damage from Rod of Covanent shots but nothing else could hurt them.

Second game he seized initiative and his lightning attacks from stormlord wrecked one razorback and I ran up my first turn but he popped solar flare turn 2 and layed into me. scarabs took landraider down to armour 7 paladins jumped out wrecked a warrior squad then ate fire from almost everything else was left with just Banner and Grand Master who failed LD and were finished off next turn.

Necrons played well and are a serious threat to be dealt with. the S9 AP1 large blast from Doomsday is nasty

Changing Sons of Magnus list.

I have found the one wound Terninators with WS4 are a bit disappointing to me. I am going Back to my original list  which worked well. The double Landraider list just has not impressed me. Other than a few losses to Steve's Tyranids it has won probably 80 percent of its games. But a few of them were from lucky breaks. I feel my old list is more well rounded.

Sons of Magnus vs Tyranids

Played 2k vs Nids at my house against a good friend. Beakycon mission again. Came down to him destroying a Razorback on bottom of turn 7 to win. I was up on kill points and we both held our capture and control and one seize ground apiece. I contested the last seize ground he got last turn so assaulted the Razorback with Tyranid Prime and 3 Hormogaunts. Prime whiffed then 3 Gaunts got 2 6's to glanced thanks to adrenal glands. Was already immobolized he proceeded to roll double 6's to glance it to death thus winning the seize ground 2 to 1 we went to victory points and he had me by 315 pts

Have been having some trouble with failing way above average on Terminator Saves am considering changing list by either dropping 5 man terminator squad and putting in another 5 man strike squad with no Razorback and upgrading 6 man Termie squad to Paladins withs Apothecary but would have to drop Warp Stabalization on Raider and the Stave from Brother Captain who I upgraded to Grand Master so Paladins could be scoring also gave Librarian Might of Titan

Other Possibility is Drop the Crusader and make 6 man Termies up to 8 with 3 Sword, 2 Hammer, 2 Halberds, Banner with Psycannon. Added Second Dread same as first and Gave Librarian Might of Titan and Dark Excommunication.

Not sure I like either one better than current list don't like giving up second Raider and like having the second Termie squad. Does well with average dice so may just stick with list and hope dice come around.

Sons of Magnus vs Dark Eldar

Was a 2000 pt game played at Birds of Paradise in Duniedin we used the Beakycon missons which can be found on Greenblowfly's (Steve Turner) blog.

Vect and 5 incubi in a Venom

We rolled and got 4 seize ground objectives and Spearhead deployment.
ended up with one in center of table and other 3 around it so was one in 3 of 4 zones within 12 of center in a circle.


I won first turn so set up with my Assasin in building with my c&c objective underneath it. Put Razorback next to building so it was holding a seize ground and my c&c. Put the Dread behind a wall and flanked it with to Land Raiders.

He deployed everything in his zone with Warrior venoms up front forming a screen. Filled his whole zone up. Was rather intimidating staring at 12 vehicles

He then proceeded to steal initiative with vects 4+

Turn 1
Dark Eldar
He moved most of his stuff up and started shooting he got a glance and a pin on my Dread with a Ravager. I attempted to cast shrouding and rolled box cars then failed the invuls so wounded my librarian. None of his other shooting did anything either missing or failing to pin.

Moved Crusader up 6 in for better shots and pivoted other raider everything else stayed put. Shot ravager with vindicare and razorback but he saved both with flicker field. Land Raider managed to kill the first ravager  and Dread a second. Crusader killed the third and immobilized the Raider

Turn 2
Dark Eldar
With Ravagers gone he had to get his blasters in range. He moved up again flew one venom over to zone on my right to claim the objective and dumped the guys out. Moved wyches out of immobile raider and towards me. He then proceeded to do nothing but shake the Land Raider although he did manage to kill assasin with fire from warriors and a venom.

I sat still and shot 3 venoms down one of which had vect in it one incubi died in blast and the 2 warrior squads lost 2 and 3 guys to thier explosions and immobilized 2 others

Turn 3
Dark Eldar

He moved toward me with the wyches and Vects squad. Finally destroyed crusader with Blasters from trueborn. I deployed in front of it. Vect and Incubi fleeted and assaulted me. Vect was based with the 2 characters and failed to wound them while incubi killed the Justicar and a force sword My characters failed to hurt vect while squad killed 2 of the 3 Incubi for a draw.

Land Raider moved up and dropped termies out so were shielded from everything but the 5 man warrior squad on objective which they mowed down with shooting. Killed 2 more Venoms with Raider and Razorback. Combat saw Vect and Characters do nothing to each other as squad lost banner to the Incubi but killed him in return for another tie combat.

Turn 4
Dark Eldar

He moved his 3 remaining Venoms up to try and kill Land Raider
Shooting just saw him shake it again.
Combat wyches finally made it and ran in to help vect.ches managed to kill the 2 deamon hammers while vect could not hurt my characters. Killed one wych and vect finally failed his save and died thanks to 2 hammerhands making me S 6. Won by 3 and wyches ran. I consolidated in range to keep them running.

I split the 2 characters and termie off so all 3 were alone raider made fortitude. Librarian warp rifted a warrior squad killing one and termie shot the 2 man warrior squad killing one. Captain used incinerator to kill 3 wyches thanks to 3 1s on my wound rolls. immobilized a venom and shook another but could not kill one this turn. wyches ran after shootin but both warrior units stood. Librarian ran in and killed last 3 warriors in squad he shot and termie finished of lone warrior next to him

At this point my opponent decided to call the game as was not much he could do to win I was way ahead on KP and controlling center of table with all his troops dead or fleeing except 2 units in immobile venoms.

My current army is The Sons of Magnus it is a Thousand Sons faction that never fell. They use the Grey Knight rules. They are painted pre-heresy colors. I also have a large Space wolves army and am beginning work on Dark Eldar

First Blog

This blog will be mostly devoted to Warhammer 40k with a sprinkling of Fantasy from time to time and maybe some rants about my Redskins
